Peter Weinstock

A practicing pediatric intensive care unit physician at Boston Children’s Hospital, Peter has combined an entrepreneurial focus with >20 years of experience in surgery, medicine, education and innovation to lead the development of the Boston Children’s Simulator Program (SIMPeds) to one of largest and most sophisticated return on investment healthcare simulator enterprises in the world.
SIMPeds merges high stakes human factors with curriculum, organizational learning, industrial engineering, 3D print technologies, SFX and virtual/augmented reality – to study, train, and prepare world-class clinicians and healthcare enterprises, as well as improve preparedness and reduce fear and anxiety in patients and families.
Peter has consulted throughout the world creating medical simulation ecosystems for medical centers and regional health care systems.
He provides healthcare expertise among multiple advisory boards including education, simulation, social robotics as well as artificial intelligence and lectures internationally including TED on state of art simulation and experiential learning.
He has published sentinel articles and raised millions of dollars in grant funding of innovative application and approaches to simulation – from human factors to impacts of 3D engineering and testing of next generation ultra-realistic training devices.
Peter has chaired meetings worldwide, is Founding President of the International Pediatric Simulation Society, and is recipient of the 2017 IHI/NPSF Lucian Leape Institute Medtronic Safety Culture and Technology Innovator Award.
Peter graduated cum laude from Columbia University with a BA in Philosophy then received his MD from Cornell Medical School along with PhD from Rockefeller University in molecular and cellular biology, followed by clinical training in plastic and general surgery at the University of Pittsburgh and pediatrics critical care medicine at the Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
