American Line Builders Apprenticeship Training (ALBAT) is a cooperative labor-management apprenticeship program established in 1958 and funded by the American Line Builders Chapter, the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Fourth and Sixth Districts. The private company is based in Medway. ALBAT offers federally registered, paid apprenticeships in six specialized electrical construction fields: cable splicing, outside line, substation, traffic signal, transmission, and underground residential distribution (URD). The program combines job-related technical instruction with structured on-the-job training to prepare individuals for careers in electrical construction and utility work. Apprentices gain hands-on experience in installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and equipment operation while attending mandatory training classes and certification courses. ALBAT provides continuing education and certifications such as OSHA compliance, traffic signal technician qualifications, and specialized equipment operation. The program supports career advancement through incremental wage increases, nationally recognized credentials, and potential college credit via the American Council on Education (ACE), and facilitates educational benefits for military veterans. Resources for applicants, apprentices, and employers are available to support workforce development across the served regions.
