FRANKFURT (DEUTSCHE-BOERSE AG) : US equity ETFs are dominating the market. Technology stocks are increasingly being sold off, while emerging markets are coming into focus. SpaceX continues to stimulate activity in space-themed ETFs following its IPO. In the precious metals sector, outflows are currently prevailing.
June 17, 2026. FRANKFURT (Deutsche Börse). The buying frenzy in ETF trading continues. Although there were no major savings plan executions this past week, Frank Mohr of Société Générale reports a clear surplus of buy orders amid high turnover. Equity ETFs are particularly popular, accounting for 80 percent of trading volume, while bond ETFs represent only 20 percent. "Normally, the bond segment accounts for at least a third," the trader explains.
Broadly diversified US equity index funds are currently in high demand. Investors are primarily buying S&P 500 ETFs from iShares (IE00B5BMR087) and Vanguard (IE00B3XXRP09), as well as the iShares MSCI USA (IE00BYVJRR92). As in the previous week, Mohr is seeing profit-taking in the technology segment, where the Invesco EQQQ Nasdaq-100 (IE0032077012) and the iShares Nasdaq-100 (IE00B53SZB19) are seeing a majority of sell orders.
US Equities Remain the Top Choice
Global index funds present a mixed picture. While MSCI World ETFs from iShares (IE00B4L5Y983) and Amundi, as well as the Vanguard FTSE All-World (IE00B3RBWM25), are in strong demand, Mohr reports disposals of the State Street SPDR MSCI All Country World (IE00B44Z5B48).
Beyond these two dominant categories, which account for two-thirds of turnover, there is significant buying interest in the Amundi MSCI Emerging Markets Swap (LU1681045370) and the iShares Core MSCI EM IMI (IE00BKM4GZ66). European equities are less popular, despite the Euro Stoxx 50 recently hitting a new all-time high. Mohr notes a high volume of sell orders, particularly for the iShares Core EURO STOXX 50 (IE00B53L3W79).
Tech ETFs Tower Above All
In sector ETF trading, technology index funds remain the leaders. However, their share of turnover has dropped from 60 to 40 percent compared to the previous week. "Nevertheless, interest here is still very high," Mohr explains, describing it as an "all-encompassing sector." Following recent profit-taking, the ratio between buys and sells is "fairly balanced" this time.
The iShares S&P 500 Information Technology (IE00B3WJKG14) and the Amundi MSCI World Information Technology (LU0533033667) are being offloaded. On the buy lists are the Xtrackers Artificial Intelligence & Big Data UCITS ETF 1C (IE00BGV5VN51) and the iShares Electric Vehicles and Driving Technology (IE00BGL86Z12). Sven Seipp also mentions the VanEck Semiconductor (IE00BMC38736), which has risen 70 percent since the start of the year. "This index fund is providing the best turnover in our tech ETF sector," says the ICF Bank trader.
Both traders also report a further increase in turnover and strong buying of the VanEck Space Innovators (IE000YU9K6K2) surrounding the SpaceX IPO. "Some are using the recent price decline of around 25 percent as an entry opportunity," Seipp says, analyzing the trend.
Crude Oil in Demand, Precious Metals Under Pressure
Commodity ETC trading is dominated by crude oil and precious metals. Following the potential end of the conflict between the US and Iran, oil prices have fallen significantly. However, many investors seem to doubt the sustainability of this move. Seipp reports high turnover in the WisdomTree WTI Crude Oil 3x Daily Leveraged (IE00BMTM6B32). Additionally, the trader reports significant outflows from the precious metals sector, with sales primarily seen in the Invesco Physical Gold EUR Hedged (XS2183935274) and the WisdomTree Physical Silver (JE00B1VS3333).
