BRASILIA (Reuters) -Brazil's finance minister, Fernando Haddad, said on Wednesday he is concerned about a bill in Congress that would give lawmakers the power to dismiss central bank directors, as the bank reviews the acquisition of mid-sized lender Master by its peer BRB.

The bill, introduced in 2021 and shelved since then, became the target of a request by lawmakers on Tuesday for an expedited legislative process, still pending a vote, that would speed up its progress in Congress.

"I view this with concern," Haddad told reporters, stressing that the proposal was not discussed with the government and there is no reason for it to move forward in Congress.

"What is the intention behind this? It's a bit worrying," he added.

Haddad said he had exchanged messages with central bank chief Gabriel Galipolo about the "inconvenience of the matter," which "adds nothing."
